NAFAS Demonstrators are qualified at Area and National level. Qualification Tests for Area Demonstrators are held regularly within the Area. Demonstrations play an important part in flower club programmes with each demonstrator creating a variety of individually tailored floral exhibits – from classical to contemporary, often influenced by nature or a new trend. Audiences enjoy ‘a live show’ combining art, horticulture and theatre.
National Demonstrators

Mrs Lorena Dyer

Mrs Sionedd Hughes
Having been taken to flower club as a schoolchild, and wowed by the amazing designs produced on stage, this influenced Sionedd in her career path. So after training both in horticulture and then in floristry, her career has come full circle to lead her back to where her interest was first sparked.
Sionedd is now a National Demonstrator who enjoys sharing her knowedge and passion of her garden plant material and all things floral.

Mrs Louisa Rigden
In 2003 I attended my first NAFAS Club Meeting with my Mum and was immediately hooked. My love of flower arranging led me to taking the NAFAS Diploma in Floral Design in 2012 and also becoming a demonstrator in the same year. I love using garden foliage but also like creating a variety of styles. Floral design is my creative escape from my day job as an accountant and makes the days brighter!
Louisa passed her National Demonstrator test at Shirley in April 2026 with her demonstration “Six Lives”.
Louisa’s location is in CV4.

Mrs Margaret Rumens
Showcasing her love of garden plant material and having access to a wide selection of florist’s flowers and foliages means that Margaret is in demand for her knowledge, sense of humour, chatty style and varied use of plant material.
Demonstrating has taken Margaret to many Area Members Days and AGMs, Club Open Demonstrations and giving the demonstration at the NAFAS Assembly at Swansea. She has demonstrated extensively in the UK, Ireland and Spain. One of her very first demonstrations when living in South Wales was to an audience of 600 WI members.

Ms Claire Bond
Flowers have been a huge part of my life for over 30 years. As a qualified florist my floral journey began in retail floristry. It’s a career I’ve very much loved; it’s not only allowed me to develop my skills but also opened up many a floral opportunity, from endless competition work, sales trips to Holland as well as those events and weddings! I originally passed my NAFAS Area Demonstrators Test in 2004 before taking a break to raise my children. During this time, I gained my teaching qualification and I then went on to work for BAES as a subject lead delivering leisure and accredited floristry at centres all over Birmingham. I now work independently, offering floristry training and workshops alongside everyday floral designs. Having qualified as an Area Demonstrator for the second time in October 2023, I’m really looking forward to visiting clubs once again.

Mrs Joanna Davis
I passed my Area test in 2018 and I love demonstrating and all the fun, friendship and flowers that brings. I gained a level 3 floristry qualification in 2017.
I enjoy being our Area Demonstrators Rep and being a member of the Judging Demonstrators Education and Speakers committee. I take satisfaction in helping demonstrators in any way I am able.
I spend time researching different topics to try and make my demonstrations interesting and I relish searching for the quirky container!

Mrs Elaine Hale
My career in the flower world started out over 30 years ago when I trained as a florist in Derbyshire. I moved to the Cotswolds and joined a local flower club. I was fascinated by the demonstrators I watched and decided to train to become a demonstrator.

An invitation to a flower demonstration when I was in my twenties introduced me to flowers and opened a whole new beautiful world to me. I love everything about flowers: their diverse natural beauty, their symbolism and meanings, the way they evoke emotion and memories and bring people together.
I qualified as a NAFAS Area Demonstrator in 2012 and my demonstrations and workshops give me the opportunity to be creative, to share my love of flowers and hopefully inspire others, just as I was inspired all those years ago.

Mrs Ruth Mahon and Mrs Maryan Hermitage
Ruth qualified as an area demonstrator in October 2023 20 years after joining Meriden Floral Society with her mum Maryan Hermitage who qualified at the same time and has always had a love of the garden and flower arranging. It was at a demonstration at Berkswell Flower Club when the demonstrator mentioned that South Midlands wanted to recruit some new demonstrators’, her ears pricked up and mind started whirring, was she good enough to be a demonstrator? Yes, she is and Ruth now shares her love of flowers with others members of NAFAS.
Maryan qualified as an area demonstrator in October 2023. Whilst training she found that her greatest difficulty was doing arrangements large enough to be seen from a distance. Her career was as a secondary school teacher teaching maths with a special interest being in lines and shapes which she has been able to incorporate into her floral designs.

I also trained as a florist and the combination of these skills has seen me travelling all over the UK and to France and Germany as well. My demonstrations include a variety of styles from the traditional to the contemporary and I love to use colour in my designs. Mrs Alison Suffolk
I am a qualified florist and have been part of the industry since 1987. My passion for flowers has enabled me to explore different aspects of the trade from working in a Garden Centre, a high street Interflora florist and then onto employment as a florist wholesaler.
Throughout this journey, I’ve accumulated a wealth of knowledge but what I find really appealing bout working with flowers is the vast opportunity to always be able to learn more…
I gained teaching qualifications and have been a lecturer in FE teaching floristry qualifications for the past 16 years. Passing my skills and passion for flowers on to students keen to learn has been a great pleasure.
My most recent achievement was becoming an Area Demonstrator for NAFAS in 2014 and I’m now enjoying the experiences which this brings.
